Active Release Technique (A.R.T.)

Active Release Technique™ (A.R.T.) is a patented, state-of-the-art manual therapy designed to treat soft tissue injuries affecting muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves. This specialized, hands-on approach allows patients to actively participate in their recovery process. During A.R.T. sessions, targeted tension is applied to areas of scar tissue or “knots” while the patient engages in specific joint motions. This combination helps to stretch the tissue, effectively breaking apart abnormal adhesions that contribute to pain and restricted movement.

Adhesions in the muscles can lead to reduced flexibility and strength, as muscle fibers need to move smoothly alongside one another for effective contraction. When scar tissue is present, the movement of these fibers becomes limited, often resulting in joint dysfunction. A.R.T. focuses on restoring health to the affected soft tissues, ensuring optimal function for both muscles and joints.

A.R.T. is specifically utilized to restore health to muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS)

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization is a ground-breaking approach to rehabilitation as it aims to change global function and improve trunk stability which is essential for movement and balance. It provides ease to execute daily tasks with independence, but also to provide long lasting improvement in function and pain relief.

This postural training focuses on improving movement patterns and preventing hypokinesis, i.e., a lack of active movement. The current trend of a sedentary lifestyle is a common cause of chronic pain, which can then cause difficulties even in performing daily activities, such as limiting household tasks. The objective of postural training is to restore body stability and strengthen key parts of the body, such as the pelvis, torso, and neck, which work together in every movement. During training, the focus is on the ideal postural stabilization technique, gradually shifting from static to dynamic stability.

Unlike many traditional approaches, DNS helps restore ideal muscle coordination of the integrated stabilisation system by prompting a full body – global – motor pattern, essential for the control of posture and spinal stability throughout life

Joint Adjustments and Mobilizations

Our chiropractic approach targets the efficient movement and alignment of joints throughout the body. By restoring normal joint mechanics, we help address musculoskeletal restrictions that may impact your overall movement patterns and physical health. Rather than focusing solely on the spine, we evaluate the entire body to identify areas where improved joint mobility can support functional strength, flexibility, and balance.

Our treatment techniques—including manual adjustments, SOT Blocks, Activator Techniques, and Mobilization with Movement—are chosen based on what’s most effective for your needs. We emphasize a gentle, individualized approach that prioritizes controlled adjustments to improve joint function without requiring aggressive manipulation. Our goal is to help you move more freely and comfortably, supporting your active lifestyle and physical well-being.

Rehabilitative Exercises

Incorporating rehabilitative exercises into your treatment plan helps you reset your body and improve your awareness of how it moves, especially during daily activities. These exercises focus on enhancing your movement patterns and strengthening your body, making you more resilient against poor movement habits that can arise from reduced flexibility, mobility, strength, and stability.

Many injuries occur due to weaknesses in how your body moves that build up over time, potentially leading to further problems. As you work towards pain-free activities, we will suggest specific strength and conditioning exercises that fit your needs, along with adjustments for your daily routines. These strategies will help you tackle underlying weaknesses and reduce the risk of re-injury, ultimately promoting your independence from ongoing care.

Our goal is to equip you with the tools and knowledge to maintain your health and well-being beyond our sessions. Typically, as you improve, you will need fewer visits, eventually leading to your discharge from care. However, some situations may require longer rehabilitation, such as recovering from surgery or dealing with chronic conditions like lower back pain due to scoliosis or joint issues. Each plan is customized to ensure your best recovery and long-term health.

In addition to the above therapies, we utilize a range of supportive treatment modalities designed to enhance recovery and optimize overall function:

  • Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM): Using tools like RockBlades by RockTape, this technique precisely targets and releases adhesions within soft tissues. By applying controlled pressure, IASTM effectively breaks down scar tissue and improves tissue mobility, facilitating a quicker return to functional movement.
  • Cupping Therapy: Our cupping sessions utilize RockTape RockPods to promote fascial release. This technique generates negative pressure that enhances blood flow, reduces muscle tension, and fosters relaxation, significantly aiding the healing process.
  • Blood Flow Restriction Training: This innovative technique activates the soft tissues and neuromotor system, increasing the effectiveness of manual therapy. By applying specialized bands to temporarily restrict blood flow during low-intensity exercise, we stimulate muscle adaptation, improve strength, and enhance overall recovery outcomes.
  • Kinesio Taping: This therapeutic taping method is used to support and stabilize muscles and joints without restricting movement. Kinesio Taping promotes circulation and reduces pain by lifting the skin, allowing for improved blood flow and lymphatic drainage, which accelerates healing.

What We Treat

We specialize in resolving movement-related pain and dysfunction — not just chasing symptoms. Our focus is on helping active individuals and athletes recover from injury, improve performance, and stay ahead of future setbacks.

We treat:

  • Pre- and Post-Surgical Patients: Whether you’re preparing for surgery or recovering afterward, we use movement-based assessments and targeted treatment to improve outcomes and accelerate healing.
  • Athletes: From weekend warriors to professionals, we offer individualized care that goes beyond injury recovery — including pre-game treatments to optimize mobility, coordination, and readiness the day before competition.
  • Active Adults with Chronic or Acute Issues: We address spine, joint, nerve, and soft tissue conditions related to poor movement patterns, overuse, or past injuries that never fully healed.
  • Instead of offering a one-size-fits-all approach, we dig deeper to understand your biomechanics, uncover the root cause of your pain or limitation, and create a strategy that works both now and long term. Whether you’re an athlete aiming to return to peak performance or seeking relief from daily discomfort, our team is dedicated to supporting your journey toward optimal health.

What To Expect From Your First Treatment

  • We will take a detailed history and perform a physical evaluation in order to define your injury/issue.
  • We will educate you about your problem.
  • We will show you how to help your body heal. Techniques include: Self myofascial massage, stabilizing and strengthening exercises, pain management (ie: using ice/heat, topical analgesics), and awareness of aggravating positions.
  • We sometimes use Kinesio, or some other form of tape, to support your body while it is healing. Kinesio Tape is very light-weight and enhances muscle, joint, and circulatory functions aiding in injury recovery.
  • Soreness the day after treatment can occur and is a normal part of the healing process. We will make some suggestions on how to minimize the soreness. It usually resolves in one to two days.
  • On a rare occasion, one treatment may resolve your problem. More likely, it may take a few treatments to both resolve the pain and/or increase your body’s function and performance.
  • We work on a treat and release basis, which means we do not keep you coming for care unless it’s helping. If it’s not helping, we may give you a referral to see a healthcare provider such as an orthopedic surgeon, physical therapist, or acupuncturist. As part of your care, we may suggest yoga or pilates.
